Secret Trip
Secret Trip
I don’t know if I should interrupt the Joe and Peter show, but there’s a really interesting bit of info starting to work its way around the Junction and I wonder if anyone knows anything about it. Seems Bob Corbin, Greg Davis and some others are supposed to have gone the mountains in the last few days with a whole lot of horses. Apparently to work with someone using ground penetrating radar and other high tech stuff. Even made arrangements how to split up the spoils including media. Several people have confirmed this or parts of it. Anyone know what’s going on?
From what you say it sounds as though they're prepared to move some serious earth. This being highly illegal, it will be interesting to see the result of any proposed media attention.
Also interesting that our paragon of an ex-Attorney General should be in on this. Some paragon.
Wonder what they are going after? Mineral? Hope they have their permits in order. Antiquities? Hmm... now it becomes illegal AND immoral. Just what we've come to expect from our public figures.

Hmmmmmmm.
It would be rather silly to do something illegal then announce it to the world. I consider Greg Davis a friend and dont think he would be mixed up in anything like that.
No comment on the person accompanying him as I know how much value
that person places on his word and friendship. Working for the government must do strange things to a feller.......

I have heard a bit about this trip too. Seems to me a couple of important issues are raised. First, it says a lot about who is and who is not a Dutch Hunter and to what end their information may be put. Second, on this one Peter I would be careful about trying to take the moral high ground as you could well end up loosing credibility.
Rosebud,
Interesting post, but I don't get your point. Looking back at the previous posts, I can't see where Peter took the high moral ground, nor where he may lose credibility if he did. Are you sure you didn't mean me?
Also, we're all Dutch Hunters, and that's the end anyone's information is put to. It's just that for some of us, there are some considerations that are more important than finding and working the LDM.
But that's just some of us, right?

Rosebud,
I am not too certain how much "moral high ground" I have taken here.
But, if I somehow lose credibility by calling it like I see it in this particular matter..I dont rightly care one way or the other.. If you or anyone else doesnt like my stance on certain issues...well I guess you'll get over it sooner or later.
These posts hit a little too close to home, Rosebud?

Now that I am riled some let me continue a bit....
Some Dutch Hunters are looking for a cache. Some are looking for a mine.
Some seek wealth, and not a few seek fame and notoriety. Some want to be THE one to solve the puzzle, when all who have gone before failed.
I, and a few close friends seek none of the above. I am satisfied as to the location of the LDM..tho I doubt I will be unearthing any wealth anytime soon. To do so would be to betray some trusts placed upon me, and while I know others have succumbed to the lure (and those looking in know who I am talking about), I will not be numbered among them.
Hell, I have found my own treasure in the mountains that is more important to ME than all the gold cached away on those scraggily peaks...
friendship, gagee' and the quiet night wind....

I am not one to engage in back-and-forths. Laundry list-postings of such become boring reading quickly and I believe that the forum is better served and enjoyed when we address issues – history, clues, sources, etc., and not each other. And there is a serious issue raised by this topic.
You know, it is strange what pull this whole thing seems to have on some people. People who have solved the puzzle (just ask them) will travel thousands of miles to continue researching it, looking for clues and exploring the mountains looking for what they have already found, basking in a beauty that can apparently only be found in this one wilderness. What a tangled web ol’ Waltz wove.

The Press
Gentlemen,
If the Authorities are turning a blind eye to this (rumor to me) story and you know it to be factual, it is incumbent on you to take it to the public forum through the media. This kind of story is right up their alley. Posting names on this forum is a less than effective way to have any impact on this group in the mountains.
Peter,
I doubt your warnings will have any effect on this group. Public knowledge is the only thing that will bring pressure to bear from those with the power to change this situation. Try the media, not the forum.
Joe

In this discussion let’s not forget that there are those who respect the mountains and what they hold: men who have carried the ashes of their friends in for a private burial, men who respect the beliefs of others, men who love and carefor the those mountains, men who have tried to preserve their history and lore against formidable odds. Full kudos to men like Ron who have struggled when they could have taken an easier route. Just did not us to forget that there are mighty fine people in this game too.
Rosebud,
Of course there are a lot of fine people associated with the mountains. But they are not the concern. What is of concern is the scum that would destroy the history and integrity of the mountains, and in the process harm some of those people.
And not all of them are outlaws, either - the Green Suits are erasing history out there as fast as they possibly can.
The crop of scum that is the topic of this thread, though, are bandits pure and simple. I'm sure you know the type.

You are correct. There ARE good decent men involved in the mountains and the LDM. It is my very great priviledge to know some, to have hiked and camped with some, and to call some both friend and brother.
Nonetheless, there is a dark side of Dutch Hunting, that many do not know about. Time to be educated..........

Who Was That Masked Man?
Spectator,
It is interesting how you joined the forum with the obvious agenda to start a rumor and then faded into the woodwork as others carried out your work.
You presented not a single fact nor another comment in the thread that continued without further input from you. Most rumors have a life of their own, and this one is doing very well thank you. You named two well respected citizens and implied they would be doing something "illegal", and others have added "immoral". Anonymous accusations without any proof, are the tools of people like Saddam (may he rot in hell). Those who foster these types of rumors are running in bad company, indeed.
You came into this forum in a familiar manner, "I don't know if I should interrupt the Joe and Peter show..." This implies that you are one of us, or have been. It is best that you remain wherever you are now hiding. Without any facts concerning what is now a rumor, I will make no further comments on this topic.
Peter,
What is the point in making remarks in Apache, that no one but you can understand? Seems like a waste of a good putdown to me.

Well said, Wiz. The land is being taken away from the American public, and the history is being erased, by the green suits themselves. If you don't believe it , just take a look at any map of the wilderness today and try and find even a designation of where Reavis Ranch was, amongst many other things. There has been a distinct effort to erase knowledge from the recent maps, which is akin to destroying knowledge, sound like anybody else?
As far as this secret trip that was refered to, I have heard nothing and can assure you men like Corbin and Greg would have nothing to do with an illegal dig.

Joe,
I can assure you that Spectator was not engaged in idle chatter. As to whether or not certain parties are up to illegal activity...who can say.
My point in using an occasional Apache word or phrase is so that friends... both white and red... know what I am talking about. Kinda like how my grandfather would slip into Castel-la-Mare Italian every now and then.
thl'iish = snake
bitsagha'l = that rattles
Ron
I hope you are correct.......but fear you are not.

Long Lost Brother
Peter,
Are you speaking of Castellammare, Sicily? If so, the town is full of Ribaudos, as that is where my family is from originally. There may yet be a familial connection. Does the phrase "long lost brother" have a haunting ring to it?

Wrong Country
Peter,
Both families come from towns with the same name. Your's on the Gulf Of Naples and mine on the Gulf of Castellammare. That's a hell of a coincedence. Since your people are from Italy and mine from Sicily, I now understand our natural tendency to disagree on almost everything.
Considering the history of the two countries, you could still be my long lost brother.
Change that from Frati, to:
Fratello Joe
