La Barge
La Barge
In Granger's Arizona Place Names under La Barge Canyon it says La Barge was reported to have been “a companion of Waltz of the Lost Dutchman Mine.” This is the only reference I have seen linking LaBarge and Waltz. I wonder if there is any substance to it?

LaBarge/LeBarge
Rosebud,
There is some confusion as to who the canyon was named for. Best bet would be Phil La Barge, who was the partner of Martin Charlebois, a local cattleman. A Canadian prospector named John Le Barge is also a possibility, and some old-time books on the Superstitions used that spelling. This information can be found in Carlson and Stewart's Hiker's Guide to the Superstition Wilderness. This book is a great addition to any Dutch Hunters library.
My guess would be that Aurum can give you the complete rundown, including dates on this question.
