Keyhole
With this, you can check out the Superstition mountains in full 3d, fly-through, what have you. Theres probably some of you who know about this program, its called Keyhole LT. but i am betting most of you havent. It might be interesting to download the trial version. I can already think of a handfull of reasons why you'd want this. Ask me if you have questions/problems using the program. And by the way, i recomend broadband.

Its all satellite imagery that your seeing when using this. Theres an option you can use to even be able to see mountains or lakes, etc from flythrough views. Basically you can do whatever you want in it.
I think it would be quite handy for any avid LDM searcher since your basically able to move to any point on the superstition mountains, in full 3D, at the drop of the hat.

The link i gave just above is only to download the program. Once you install it from there, they have you fill out a small form and email you a number, and you need that number to use the program.
If you follow this next link, they have you fill out the form first, AND THEN it will let you download.

EITHER WAY YOU WANT will work. but this IS WORTH the 5
minute "hassle".
AND PLEASE if you guys have any questions @ all with the program, I'm right here. i really want you guys to check this out.

I checked the web site and read the description of the program. It seems awesome.
But... I only have a dial-up connection at home and the program requires broadband. So, I can't run it. I wish I could because it really seems to be neat.

I tried the program. The panning and zooming was pretty cool, but the resolution wasn't great as I zoomed in more and more. It was almost like viewing a 1:25,000 topo map, but in picture form. This could be good for a general view of a search area, though. Also, the 3D feature didn't work for me. As I tilted the view, the picture remained flat. There is terrain shadowing and color, of course, but it remained 2D as I tilted the image. Maybe this is a limitation of the video card in my computer, however it is a Matrox Dual Head G450, which is pretty good, so I'm not sure. Any advice on the 3D feature? Thanks.

I'm betting that is becuase you were in an area that has little elevation changes. Orr....... were you in the sups ? ? Once you switch to 3d mode, you gotta give it time to load the terrain. its pulling EVERYTHINg off from the keyhole servers. And its like viewing from an airplane. while you can see individual bushes on the ground, it doesnt look so great when you come close. But with the place saving features, you could mark what trails you walked, etc. Or see geographical features from the sky.

update on program
Of course this may be common knowledge at this point, but the program formerly known as "Keyhole" has been bought and developed by Google. Now it is called "Google Earth", and has a lot of new features. Unfortunately, the really nice hi-res images end in Apache Junction, just West of the Supes. No telling when better images for our area of interest will be forthcoming.
