Steve Creager
Steve Creager
To all,
I want to let you good folks know what has happened to a good friend of mine, Steve Creager, whom you folks know by his forum moniker, SC.
Steve has been stricken with lung cancer and is not doing too well. The type of cancer is called mesothelioma, a cancer usually associated with asbestos victims. I do not know if he ever had any asbestos issues, I do know that he was a smoker, though. The cancer has advanced to a point where his left lung is completely overcome by it and a tumor has formed between both lungs. He is now in ICU, fully sedated, on a ventilator in St Marys Hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri. To make matters worse, he is also suffering from a mild heart condition so the doctors are concerned that in his weakened condition, any operation they undertake may be too much for his system.
Steve is a young man, 48 years old. Has a wife and two teenaged boys. A few years back he lugged a 70 pound back a good 7 miles uphill. Three months ago we were making plans for going in the mountains this past December. When we hadnt heard from Steve a good friend of mine called his house and his wife told him what had happened. I spoke to Lynn, his wife, a few days ago. This whole thing happened in perhaps 6 weeks time.
Please keep SC in your prayers. He is a good friend and as fine a man as they come. Some of us have sent Get Well wishes and cards to his family. I will be happy to supply you folks with Steves home address if you want to send a card..... send an email to me at [email protected].

There is little doubt that Steve has befrinded many members of this Forum. He has always been the voice of reason, and gave freely of his knowledge and the material he painstakenly accumulated over the years.
Steve and his family need our thoughts, prayers and collective energy. My own thoughts and prayers will be with them every day.

True Words
Matthew's words about the character, kindness and selfless giving nature of Steve Creager are exactly what I have experienced over the years. Many of you must have experienced the same thing.
Those exact words apply to Matthew Kraig Roberts. We have all been so very, very lucky to have the shoulders of these giants to stand on. There helping hands have reached out to each and every one of us.
When you consider Steve, Matthew, Greg, Thomas.....the list really goes on for awhile, there is no place in the world like this Forum.
I may have failed to count my blessings every day, but that will never happen again.
Respectfully,
Joe

Back Burner
Peter,
I would hope everything else will be put on the back burner for a time.
Few of us are ready to return to business as usual.

Phoenix Rising
As we move into this new year, it seems fitting that we all attempt to rise to the level, temperment wise, of Steve Creager. Even handed response to others posts, respectful acceptance of ideas that may not fit what we consider to be "the norm" and non-judgemental attidudes towards the motives of our posters.
I would be the first to admit that I have never drawn close to these concepts, but feel there is hope, even for me.
Steve often withdrew from participating in the Forum when the arrows were flying thickest. In those times, he never stopped answering my
e-mails or private messages. When I felt lowest from what was transpiring on the Forum, Steve would always talk about things turning around, for the better.
There are still members who have a destructive agenda posting on this Forum and always will be. Most of their identities become obvious quickly. Some of us know exactly who they are and others suspect. For me, as long as they stick to the topics, I will respectfully reply. If I feel too strongly about that person, I will not post.
I will aspire to reach the level of temperment that Steve exhibited. No doubt I will fall short. Reaching the level of his other abilities is probably beyond us all, short of someone like Matthew Roberts or Greg Davis.
It is my sincere hope that Matthew will return, as the hole that has been left in this site by his departure and Steve's passing can never be repaired
by others.

I am in agreement with you.
To honor Steve we should all try to get along a bit better. Dont know if folks who have left the forum will post again, thats up to the individual. Perhaps we should lead by example.
There is, however, one bit of business that will need to be addressed, as this fellow insists on continuing to post under a false identity...even now. I am sure you will agree with me. Lets give it a few more days though. Four days from yesterday is a nice even number. Then we will make things right.

Following The Thread
Knun,
It seems rather obvious that my last post had absolutly nothing to do with Steve Creager. I was simply following the thread.
You are correct. It belongs somewhere else.
