Understood about the Naples/Sicily thing. Fear not, I wont bring out my repetoire of Sicilian jokes that have been honed to a sharp edge by generations of professional Sidji-bashers.... Anyway, my wife is 100% Sicilian..with all the stereotypical Sicilian temperments of her lineage.
Not so sure you are a long lost shik'isn (my brother). But who knows....life sure if funny sometimes. One never knows what path one will be lead down when you step out the door.

Pasta!
Peter,
If you and the wife ever get to Lake Havasu City, I will make you a dinner that comes directly from my Grandmother, who was born in Castellammare, Sicily. My Grandfather went back to Sicily to find a wife, and found a real jewell. Part of our menu in the Supes was Chicken Cacciatore over linguine, with imported Romano Cheese. Italian sausage gravy over homemade biscuits with scrambled eggs is a breakfast favorite with my team. It's all part of the Stone Map Expedition experience.

Many thanks for the offer. I may just happen to be up that way this summer and would be happy to stop by and say hey. Despite our occasional squabbles (which I now understand is due to your ancestry),
I will say that I believe you are one of the "good" guys.
My menu last time in included jerky, trail mix and crackers. I should have stopped by your camp around dinnertime, but, as you know, it was a bit wet in there and I didnt feel much like marching the 6 miles or so to say hello. Maybe next time.

Missing in Action
Peter,
No doubt our wives would get along very well, as they have both had similar crosses to bear these many years.
You and I, on the other hand, would probably need to set ground rules as to what we could and could not discuss, and the chessboard would need to have unbreakable pieces.
As a guest in my home you would, of course, be given due defernce.
Would that six miles be "as the crow flies", or as the armadillo waddles?
In closing, let me say; who are you and what have you done with Peter?

<<Would that six miles be "as the crow flies", or as the armadillo waddles?>>
That would be as the Peter trudges. Course, I have been known to make some speed in the mountains... but I am a trudger compared to some folks I know.
<<In closing, let me say; who are you and what have you done with Peter?>>
Same person, however, me poking fun of your silly Soldiers Route theory
and a very serious matter like the subject of this thread are two different animals entirely. I was laughing while I was answering your posts. I have not been laughing much during this thread...and my serious posts here are in deadly earnest.

Wrong Again?
I have made comments in the past where I knew I was wrong, but said something that would bring some discussion and debate to the forum.
This is one time that I really wanted to be right. It may be that I owe an apology to Spectator. If so, he has it in profusion.

Azmula,
I wouldn't hold my breath as far as explanations go. For better or worse, this "secret" trip seems to have been not very secret. You have, however made an important point. I imagine the LDM community in general will be more reticent to part with any guarded/sensitive information, not knowing where it may ultimately may end up...
Joe,
Well said.
