Speaking of caves.......
About 10 years ago I knew a woman who was a nurse at the indian hospital in Phx. She knew of my interest in the LDM and told me this story: she had made friends with an Indian patient and he told her that he had been hiking the Dutchman's trail from the Peralta trailhead when he noticed a dark area behind a bush that didn't look quite right. He said he found a small opening he could barely fit through and decided to investigate. he crawled into the hole and found it opened up somewhat into a small cave. There was a shallow pool of dark, bad smelling water on the floor of the cave. He said he had found an old sword and a piece of armor on the far side of the pool. When the nurse told me this story I was skeptical but she claimed she had seen the sword with her own eyes. She moved away to work in a hospital on one of the reservations so I was never able to follow up on this story. I have no idea if there is any truth to this tale, but she seemed quite serious about it. For all I know maybe her friend showed her a sword like they sell for $30.00 in the gift shops-I don't know if she was knowledgeable enough to tell the difference. Thats all I know about it but I thought I'd pass it along for what it's worth !!
